ONTD – Oh No They Didn’t | ONTD Awards | ONTD Origins:-

Oh no, they are also known as ONTD, the largest community on LiveJournal with over 100,000 members. The organization focuses on celebrity gossip and pop culture, with most of its posts collected from other gossip blogs. The site formed a partnership with pop culture blog network Buzz Media in July 2010, which was not renewed after a year.

According to a 2008 PopMatters article, the blog was viewed more than 300,000 times daily, although it has decreased significantly in recent years. While LiveJournal raised a comment limit from 5,000 to 10,000 comments, ONTD(Oh No They Didn’t) sent the first to reach this new limit.

The ONTD was initially formed in 2004 by teenagers Erin Lang, Brie Draphen, and Brainiac Reuben.

Editorial style:-

The ONTD publishes an average of 100 member posts per day, with most posts averaging between 100 and 500 comments. Community moderators post a weekly post, “Free Friday All Friday” (or “FFAF”), which allows members to post on-topic comments.

These free posts for all are often extended to include public debates on important pop culture events, such as the Academy Awards, the Olympics (“free Olympic posts” or “FFAO” posts),and Saturday Night Live Viewing Posts has gone.

 

In addition to submitting posts to members themselves, ONTD(Oh No They Didn’t) relies heavily on user participation in the comments section, where members can express their opinions on posts. Members often describe their reaction to a particular news item by posting an animated GIF image representing their feelings.

According to MSNBC, after the death of Michael Jackson on June 25, 2009, “users expressed their collective grief by posting a fantasy Barino GIF, in which the American Idol star was waving and flailing her arms wildly,” Other users, however, expressed concern over the continued use of a popular GIF taken from the music video “Thriller,” featuring a scene of Jackson eating popcorn, an image often in anticipation of a controversial or “flame-retarded topic” Posted on community.

ONTD Awards and recognition:-

Oh No They Didn’t(ontd) won Best Gossip Blog Award at the Weblog Awards in 2008, beating other celebrity blogs such as D-Listed, Perez Hilton, and TMZ, by 44% of the vote.

ONTD was quoted in O, Oprah Magazine, Life, and Style, and singer Lily Allen addressed the online community in Playboy magazine March 2009.

Swedish newspaper Metro described the ONTD(Oh No They Didn’t) as “gossiping on steroids.” The paper also noted that with a high amount of posts, the reader would get “too many highlights, and often newspapers would get it earlier. “The San Francisco Chronicle wrote that” a disgraceful society is full of social media “and encouraged the reader to” think of a gossip house run by teenagers with bad behaviour and sharp tongues.”

AV The club cited ONTD as a “favourite time-waster website” and wrote that “the comment section can sometimes be more entertaining than posts.” In December 2009, users of ONTD were derivatively referred to as “jackfruit” because the stories posted on the blog were drawn from other sources.
In response, users adopted the term and used the word repeatedly in subsequent posts and manipulated their icons to include pictures of animals.
